Château de Germolles

Nestling in the heart of Burgundy, not far from Chalon-sur-Saône, Château de Germolles is the best-preserved residence of the Dukes of Burgundy.

Originally a fortified barn, then a fortified castle in the 12th and 13th centuries, the building was given as a gift by Philip the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, to his wife Margaret of Flanders at the end of the 14th century. She completely transformed the primitive building into a luxurious residence, the work of first-rate artists such as Claus Sluter and Jean de Beaumetz.

Thanks to its architecture, decor and bucolic surroundings, it is now recognised as a unique and innovative place, bearing witness to the life of a princely court on the eve of the Renaissance.
