The fame of this Olimpiade was unparalleled in the 18th century, as evidenced by the exceptional number of manuscript scores found throughout Europe. Stendhal still testified in 1810 that several of its arias were known by heart "throughout Italy". With the Stabat Mater he composed the following year, Pergolesi's fame was made. And what a work it was, virtuoso, vibrant, jubilant!
For his first visit to Beaune, Italian conductor Giulio Prandi will be transmitting his mad love of this music to a top-flight cast. A great evening ahead.
