A nod to Molière’s talent for improvisation – he loved to alter his texts ‘on the spot’ – the 800 Litres de paille theatre company takes us, with *The Forced Marriage*, on a journey through a mischievous play, with a crystal-clear structure and a frenetic pace, in which thirteen characters are brought to life by just three performers.
It’s the big day! The naïve, bourgeois Sganarelle is set to marry the spirited Dorimène. Everything would be fine if the bride-to-be hadn’t announced that she viewed this marriage as a promise of wealth and independence. Taken aback by this libertarian stance, Sganarelle will try everything to have the wedding called off...
Using a set comprising screens and bales of straw, director Valentin Clerc creates a world in which the actors irresistibly draw the audience into the heart of a delightful farce brimming with lessons.
This physical intimacy breathes new life into Molière’s play and fosters interaction, thereby giving full meaning to the very essence of a LIVE performance.
