A caricature of the governance of the powerful, Ubu Roi aims to show the social consequences of the actions of dictators of all stripes. When Ubu is in power, a whole society suffers: nobles are beheaded, magistrates are brainwashed, financiers are cut down, peasants are bled dry by taxes... Then came the inevitable: war!
A form that is both contemporary and ancient, touching in its inventiveness and humour, but above all, alas, in its close connection with the violence of the present day.
