The trumpet and the organ have been a musical dream combination in sacred music and concert halls long before the heyday of Maurice André. This tradition dates back to the early Baroque period, when many church and court musicians combined the trumpet with the royal instrument, the organ. On particularly solemn occasions and festivals, several brass instruments were often used to delight listeners with the dazzling sound of their instruments. It was also traditional for the brass players themselves to compose the pieces they played, as did Altenburg, Pezelius and other contemporaries.

In Meursault, too, this particular combination will resonate with festive music. Today, the technical innovations of modern instruments are being used to reinterpret Baroque music in virtuoso form, in the interplay between the two trumpets and the recently restored Mutin Cavaillé-Coll organ. You can also discover original works for two treble horns, rediscovered only a few years ago and which can only be performed adequately on modern instruments. For a long time, the art of playing the clarinet and the extremely high horn parts were completely out of fashion and had disappeared from concert programmes, until Maurice André and Ludwig Güttler appeared as musicians, but also as musicologist-researchers.

The evening's solo organ pieces are all works by a French eccentric from the end of the century: Erik Satie. Satie's Messe des pauvres for organ and choir was composed around 1895, during his mystical period. Satie composed this mass for the ceremonies of his own sect, the Église métropolitaine d'art de Jésus Conducteur, founded in 1893. He remained the only member throughout his life. In addition to the organ version of this free mass, we will hear some of the composer's best-known piano works in arrangements for organ.

Michaela Hartmann-Trummer was for many years an orchestral musician with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, where she performed under such renowned conductors and composers as Boulez, Eichhorn, Eschenbach, Holliger, B. Kontarsky, Norrington, Sinopoli and M. Viotti. She performs as a concert organist and chamber music partner.
Klaus-Ulrich Dann is a much sought-after specialist in the "high trumpet", and regularly performs in concert, particularly internationally, with the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, the Ulmer Collegium Instrumentale, and the Stuttgart and Cologne chamber orchestras.

Hubertus von Stackelberg performs as a soloist and is a much-appreciated guest and member of various orchestras and ensembles, including the municipal theatres of Heilbronn and Pforzheim, the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, the Collegium Instrumentale, musical productions and the Ensemble Modern. He also plays regularly with his ensembles Trio con voce festiva, Trio con giusto and Duo Trompitarre. He is the founder of the renowned Ludwigsburger BlechbläserQuintett, in which he has formed the trumpet section with Klaus Dann since 1984.
