In 1925, a troupe of young actors, recently settled in Burgundy, began performing in the surrounding villages. They were called the Copiaus.
The troupe was made up of young students of Jacques Copeau. They followed the director, teacher and founder of the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier, who left Paris to reinvent the theatre.
The troupe invents new forms, collecting stories in the places where it lives, touring the countryside to meet new audiences, performing in village halls and squares and at winegrowers' festivals, offering revisited classics and collective creations combining theatre, song, dance and mime.
One hundred years on, celebrating the Copiaus means celebrating a multifaceted heritage that inspires us today.
Celebrating the Copiaus means affirming the importance of young creation and transmission.
Celebrating at the Copiaus is an opportunity to share our love of theatre with a wide audience, through visits, performances, readings, etc.
