A jewel of the French Renaissance, Sully and its towers are quietly reflected in the water of the moat that surrounds them. The famous Maréchal de Mac Mahon, one of the first Presidents of the French Republic, was born in this beautiful family castle. Today inhabited by his descendants, the Duchess de Magenta and her children, Sully exudes French history and joie de vivre.
Once through the castle's heavy gates, you enter a timeless world. The sumptuous Renaissance main courtyard - "the most beautiful castle courtyard in the kingdom of France" according to Roger de Bussy Rabutin - meets the 18th and 19th century facades and medieval towers. With its furniture, paintings, tapestries and numerous souvenirs from past centuries, the interior is warm and welcoming.
The park, created in the seventeenth century and redesigned by landscape architect Achille Duchêne in the twentieth century, is a haven of peace, with its hundred-year-old orange trees in crates, its experimental permaculture vegetable garden, its ice house and its twelfth-century chapel.
